About Me
Sarah Sinclair RHN, RP
Sarah Sinclair is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. She received her certification with Honours from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Sarah believes that optimum health and wellness are obtained from the inside out and that nourishing the body with the nutrients it requires will allow it to flourish. The human body is always seeking balance and wellness, and when we provide it with the proper nutrients, health and beauty are the natural results.
Sarah works with clients in all ages and stages of life. Her own personal struggles with weight control and hormonal balance enable her to help clients with these same issues. By developing a unique nutritional blueprint for each client, a plan encompassing aspects of mind, body and spirit are developed. Sarah uses a step-by-step approach in order to assure long-term success in a non-judgemental atmosphere.
Sarah also performs Reiki and Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) treatments for clients where energy work could help them achieve total health. Integrated Energy Therapy techniques are incorporated if it is felt that a past emotional blockage may be slowing down or preventing healing and progress.
Sarah is a strong believer in giving back to the community in which she lives and donates several hours every week to Hutton House where she works with members of the Special Olympic team educating and helping them improve their diet.
Why "MINT"?
When I was trying to come up with an appropriate name for my practise - I knew I wanted a name that conveyed a natural approach to health, something that sounded fresh and related to food, but still different enough to not sound like most other practitioners out there.
My first step was to brainstorm as many words as I could - Natural, Holistic, Health, Energy, Vibrant, New, Perfect...and the list went on. I then opened the dictionary and started searching for synonyms to those words. I came up with several other options - but mint kept showing up. The online Oxford dictionary defines mint as "in pristine condition; as new", and the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as "unmarred as if fresh from a mint, in mint condition". That was the image I wanted to convey - perfection in as natural a state as possible. Having a pot of mint on my kitchen counter was the final sign that this was right for me.
What's the difference between a
Holistic Nutritionist and a Dietitian?
You might not think there is much of a difference...but there is. Much of the difference has to do with the training.
Dietitians receive their training from schools affiliated with the medical field - so a lot of their funding comes from pharmaceutical companies and food manufacturers (such as the dairy board). Dietitians depend on the Canada Food Guide as their guide to good nutrition and have specific diets for specific diseases (a diabetic diet for all diabetics for example). Dietitians do not typically focus on organic foods , and will recommend that clients eat artificial sweeteners and margarine (which is not so much a food as a plastic!).
Holistic Nutritionists on the other hand get their training from independent schools, where the focus is on eating organic, whole foods. They see the advantages of eating foods that are as natural as possible, the way nature intended. Holistic Nutritionists believe that every person is biochemically different, and so the "one diet fits all" standard doesn't apply. They will not recommend you eat foods that have been modified, de-natured and treated with chemicals since these lead to ill health and disease. A Holistic Nutritionist will also address issues relating to mind and spirit to help clients achieve complete wellness.
Please note: The above is only meant as a general guideline. There are Dietitians who take it upon themselves to learn about whole food nutrition and do not comply to the Canada Food Guide, as there are Nutritionists who don't. Before hiring one, take the time to ask about their approach.
